Smart Growth & Land Use
With increasing pressure from Governor Cox and the Utah State Legislature to offer developers more density and adopt affordable housing zoning ordinances, Lehi is at a crossroads. As your councilmember, I will take action to address the housing crisis while prioritizing the principles of limited government and local control.
There’s no doubt that Utah is facing a housing crisis, and the State of Utah has turned to cities like Lehi to be part of the solution. I support homeownership and want everyone who desires to own a home to have that opportunity. That said, I do not believe that increased government intervention is the answer. We know that more government results in increased costs and makes the problem worse.
Recently, the Lehi City Council and Planning Commission have been debating various overlays and zoning ordinances designed to incentivize developers to build more attainable housing. Among these, deed-restricted lots have been discussed at length. This greatly concerns me, as I do not support the creation of a Housing Office or Housing Authority in Lehi. I believe we can implement meaningful solutions to the housing crisis without growing government or increasing the tax burden on our residents and businesses.
